Equality, Diversity, Social Cohesion and Human Rights
There is a pressing need for organisations to move on from going through the motions of producing schemes and policies to making the critical changes in all they do to deliver real and lasting improvements for disadvantages communities and individuals and to tackle the challenges of building and maintaining social cohesion. GEM partners and associates have the practical experience, skills and techniques to help organisations change deeply ingrained cultures and attitudes and make equality and diversity part of everyday work.GEM can provide:
- Equality awareness training: motivating, challenging and engaging training for managers, board and elected members, frontline staff and policy makers
- Equality Impact assessments: carrying out equality impact assessments that lead to real change, drafting and advising on schemes, training for assessors and policy makers; on-going support including quality control
- Consultation and involvement: innovative methods of consulting with diverse communities to contribute to meaningful policy making and appropriate delivery of services
- Drafting policies and schemes, including stakeholder involvement, helping to establish clear priorities, setting realistic objectives and developing action plans to deliver them
- Reviewing and mapping existing policies, procedures and practices to ascertain the extent of real improvement and advise on changes needed
Recent work includes
- Running workshops for district council equality officers, service managers and elected members to help them to overcome the barriers to making progress on equality issues.
- Supporting the Cultural Services Team of a large city council to work more effectively with their diverse communities
